Teaching credit for undergraduate research?

Submitted by Joanne Stewart / Hope College on Mon, 10/11/2010 - 09:32

Do any of your schools give faculty teaching credit for doing undergraduate research? It seems like some of you have a required senior thesis and you get some credit for supervising some number of those.

Are there any other ways you're "rewarded" for supervising undergraduate research?

I am going to do a group meeting on Friday with my students to discuss this blog and its associated articles.  I want to alert them to the possibile realities of grad school, and traits to look for (and avoid) in potential advisors.

Any thoughts?

Submit Abstracts for ACS Boston
The session entitled  "Advances in Teaching Inorganic Chemistry" for the Chemical Education Division at the next ACS Meeting in Boston (August 22-26, 2010) is in need of submissions.  I know that there are plenty of great ideas out there.  The deadline for submission is March 29 so don't pass this opportunity up.
