A student should be able to identify major handbooks within the field of chemistry.
The student should be able to navigate the information found in those handbooks.
CRC (*CRC) CRC Handbook of Physics and Chemistry 84th Edition
CSU Chem Sources – USA 2004 Edition
Hawley Hawley’s Condensed Chemical Dictionary 14th Edition
HROS (*e-EROS) Handbook of Reagents for Organic Synthesis Volumes 1-9
KO Kirk Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Tech. 5th Edition
Lange Lange’s Handbook of Chemistry 16th Edition
Merck (*Merck) Merck Index 13th Edition
Encourage students to "sell" the handbooks as though they were hosting an infomercial. This really helped the students think about what information would be important to highlight.

They then had a homework assignment using these specific titles.
Students loved this assignment in class. It helped them understand when to use the handbooks and which handbook to check first.
I like the fact that introduces students to library materials without so much sleuthing, which can be time consuming on their behalf.
