We are excited to announce our next IONiC/VIPEr summer workshop! This workshop will be held at Smith College in Northampton, MA, from June 4-7, 2019.

At this workshop participants will interact directly with an expert about their research to facilitate the creation of  learning objects for the undergraduate classroom. This summer our expert will be Linda Doerrer, from Boston University (https://www.bu.edu/chemistry/faculty/doerrer/). Professor Doerrer is an “equal-opportunity element utilizer” whose research is focused on the synthesis of highly fluorinated aryloxide and alkoxide ligands for the stabilization of high oxidation states in first-row transition metals and potentially conducting one-dimensional nanowires. This workshop will concentrate on how to use results from her research to teach structure and bonding in the undergraduate classroom.  

The workshop will begin with dinner on Tuesday, June 4 and will end midday on Friday, June 7. While at the workshop we will be busy spending time discussing the use of articles from the primary literature in teaching and collaboratively creating learning objects from articles by our faculty expert. We will provide most of your meals and housing (shared hotel room; if you prefer a single room you may do so at an added cost). Travel to and from the workshop is the responsibility of the participant.
