VIPEr workshop on “hetero-genius” catalysis!

This summer we will once again be offering a faculty development workshop designed to broaden your ability and comfort level in teaching catalysis. We intend to develop this topic as broadly as possible, showcasing the field which ranges from organometallic catalysis for fine-chemical production through electrocatalysis for fuel production to biomimetic catalysis to model living systems. Our expert speaker panel is currently being developed, and the workshop will be held in beautiful Seattle at and near the University of Washington from June 28 - July 3, 2015.  The workshop is once again funded by the NSF-TUES grant, and we have partnered with cCWCS for advertising and applications.

We have had two previous workshops under our current grant, and three prior workshops where we piloted and refined our ideas. Some information about past workshops from 2014 and 2013 can be found on the VIPEr webpage. What can you expect to happen at the workshop?

- a lot of hard work. This is a workshop where you will once again be a student, learning (or re-learning) about cataysis through a series of presentations, workshops, and expert seminars from leading practitioners in the field. You will be expected to develop at least two learning objects based on the current research findings presented by the expert, and we will post them all to VIPEr by the end of the week.

- a lot of learning. Maybe its been 25 years since you drew a catalytic cycle. Maybe you’ve never drawn one. Maybe you do catalysis as your research field. Either way, we will have something new for you. And if you are already an expert in the field, you will be in a unique position to see how expert-non-practitioners feel about YOUR research area, and you will be able to help drive the conversation.

- a lot of fun. We balance the hard work with several nights of reception, dinner with the content experts, and a chance (many chances!) to meet new colleagues. We will definitely be exploring the Seattle/UW campus as part of our week.

Check out the previous few years worth of workshops to get a better sense of what we will be doing, and head on over to the cCWCS website to register. Looking forward to seeing you in Seattle!
