Dear Colleagues,

I must admit that ChemDraw has improved significantly over the years for drawing inorganic and organometallic structures, but there are still issues. ChemDraw has an option "clean up structure" which works well for "fine tuning" organic molecules, but it doesn't work well for inorganic molecules. Perhaps the issue is program treats the metal ions as if they are "carbon". I am not sure. Has anyone else noticed this?

I've created my own standard chemdraw template that has different bond lengths, point sizes, fonts, etc because the default ACS template works well for organics but not for inorganics.  I made the mistake of "cleaning up" an inorganic structure probably in grad school and then accidentally saving and losing the undo and I basically had to redraw it.  So, yes, I've noticed it.  I have no suggestions, except I'm glad that the newest versions of CD and MS word on the mac seem to have sorted out their file format issues and now its possible to re-edit chemdraws that you've pasted into word.  Thank goodness for that, I had delayed upgrading for almost 5 years because of that "feature."

Maybe I need to create my own standard chemdraw template as well. That is not good that the ACS template works well for organics but not inorganic molecules. Maybe I will send a note to chemdraw? (smile)
