While graduation is a few months away, many of us are beginning to think about end of year student recognitions. The website to nominate your students for the 2020 ACS DIC Undergraduate Award in Inorganic Chemistry is now open: http://www.ionicviper.org/dicaward

This award is sponsored by the ACS Division of Inorganic Chemistry. Every ACS approved program is eligible to nominate a student for this award. You can see a list of previous award winners at https://www.ionicviper.org/acs-division-inorganic-chemistry-undergraduate-award-inorganic-chemistry-awardees

Did you know that other divisions also have student recognition programs? If you're not aware of these programs and have outstanding students to nominate, here's where you can find out more about each award.

Analytical: https://acsanalytical.org/kolthoff-travel-awards-for-undergraduate-students/ (general award available soon - due in July)

Organic: https://www.organicdivision.org/student-and-postdoc-awards/undergraduateaward/ (due March 15 for certificate or June 15)

Physical: http://phys-acs.org/ugrad.html (opens in March)

Environmental: https://acsenvr.com/website/awards-recognition/undergraduate-student-awards/ (due April 1)

If you have an outstanding student research, DIC has two other awards programs - travel awards for ACS meetings (due January 15 for the spring meeting and June 1 for the fall meeting) and the undergraduate research award (due September 15). More information about these programs can be found on the DIC website: https://acsdic.org/awards/dic-student-award-opportunities/

If you know of other awards that are relevant for our students, please share!

Does anyone still give out the CRC Press award for performance in general chemistry?  I think it used to involve getitng a real copy of the book, but now it's just an honor in name only.  ?

We were wondering the same thing.  We discussed proividing the freshman student with a copy of the Organic Chemistry book that they would use the following academic year.

That's a really nice idea!  I like it.
