Dear IONiC friends,
It is time for us to replace our shelves in our chemical storage room. Does anyone have any recommendations? We have a big store room, so cost will be a factor. But we of course want to be as safe as possible. Are lips necessary? What chemically-resistant surface do you have? (Yes, we have professionals on this, but this community always has great suggestions.)

Ours are older and seem to be made of wood / particle board (?), but they do have lips. Very essential in earthquake-prone areas. Michigan may be less at risk for earthquakes, but I would think that they'd be useful in any kind of disaster, like a gentle tornado or very strong windstorm. If they're quite pricey I suppose you could only install some and save those shelves for your more dangerous materials.
It looks like we may be going with steel shelves with some sort of plastic liners/trays. I think this is going to be expensive. The professionals will make sure we meet code, but I'm still interested in hearing what others have done.
