Description
This reference book is a fabulous compendium of descriptive chemistry and examples illustrating an extensive list of trends across the periodic table.  Chapters include: the quantum mechanical basis of the periodic table, vertical trends for the s and p block elements, horizontal and diagonal trends for the s and p block elements, isoelectronic and isostoichiometric relationships, transition elements, lanthanides, and actinides.  I have used this book as a reference to write numerous problem set and exam questions and in-class examples.  I particularly like the strong connection to quantum chemistry and atomic orbitals, useful for any level of college chemistry.  Oxford University Press. ISBN 0-19-850108.  $64.95 for paperback, 400 pages.
