Friends of VIPEr,

If you are a fan of dystopian novels and Socratic seminars, please check out One Book, Many Conversations (manyconversations.org). The week of Oct 9-15, this organization will be hosting a series of moderated forums around the country on the classic book 1984 by George Orwell. This is a great chance to engage with colleagues, friends, and fellow citizens over a thought-provoking text that remains relevant to our present day.

Chemistry building renovation/new building: Advice?

Submitted by Kate Plass / Franklin & Marshall College on Tue, 06/06/2017 - 09:57

Hello,

Has anyone been through a renovation or new building process? Can you share lessons learned about how to (and how to not) go about this? What was your planning process? How did you stage the actual construction? Recommendations for where to start investigating lab configuration options?

Adjunct needs at Roosevelt U., Chicago and Schaumburg, IL, Summer and Fall 2017

Submitted by Joshua Telser / Roosevelt University on Fri, 03/03/2017 - 13:18

We have no needs for inorganic teaching at Roosevelt as long as I am there (no chance of more than one inorganic chemist), but we do have openings for adjuncts in all other areas: General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Analytical (Quantitative Analysis), and Physical Chemistry (Thermodynamics).

General and Organic are available for Summer 2017 (5 week sessions equivalent to a semester) and these as well as Analytical and Physical (see above) are available for Fall 2017 semester (28 August - 16 December).

Looking for inquiry/problem-based inorganic laboratories to visit

Submitted by Kimberly Buffie / The University of Winnipeg on Tue, 02/14/2017 - 16:08

Hi

I will be on a year-long research study leave starting July 2017 and part of my proposal is to take our existing Inorganic I and II laboratory program and make it inquiry driven and/or problem-based. I'm hoping to be able to combine a family vacation with work by visiting and perhaps participating in some undergraduate teaching laboratories. I hail from the frigid Canadian praries so somewhere warm in Janurary would be perfect (my husband is hoping for Australia).
