My startup client in the Southwest seeks a synthetic inorganic chemist. The applicant should have a Ph.D. in Chemistry or Materials Science with at least 10 years of hands-on laboratory experience synthesizing and processing complex oxides using both wet chemical and thin film techniques. Knowledge of Solid State Physics is a plus.
The successful candidate will work with scientists and engineers inside and outside of the company to design, synthesize, characterize and test materials that have application specific properties. So, a crucial skill of the successful applicant will be the ability to relate a material's chemical composition and structure to its thermal, electrical and magnetic properties.
We are seeking a self-motivated, self directed individual who will help establish their own work environment, including building a team to support the overall goal of developing novel materials. The successful candidate will be expected to help write patents, and other activities related to building an intellectual property portfolio.
We will particularly look for evidence of:
- Experience in relating material details (composition, structure, microstructure) to properties and performance at the material, device, and application levels.
- A strong technical background and an aptitude for conducting research in a commercial environment.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to plan, organize and lead research teams.
