Have you or your colleagues been using computer or web based technologies enhance student chemistry learning? If so, we hope you will forward this request to your faculty to submit an abstract to the"Integrating Interactive Technology with Lecture to Enhance Learning" symposium at the Fall 2013 National ACS Meeting. We are currently seeking presentation proposals for inclusion in the symposium. Abstracts are due March 28th, notice of acceptance will be by April 15th, and the conference will be held in Indianapolis, IN September 8-12.
While students are immersed in technology outside of the classroom, it is not clear to most instructors how to effectively integrate technology in the classroom even as digital educational materials become more readily available. The symposium will focus on the frontiers of technology-mediated classroom activities. Presentations will include the use of simulations using commercially available simulations, freeware (such as PhET), and/or instructor-designed simulations (using platforms such as Mathematica) The symposium will explore how interactive technologies are used in the learning process; for instance, as illustrations of molecular interactions or as inquiry spaces where students can interact with simulations individually or in groups. Innovative practices, research on use of simulations and student learning, design considerations, and emerging interactive classroom technologies will be discussed.
To submit an abstract, please go to the ACS meetings abstract website (http://abstracts.acs.org/). Click on “246th ACS National Meeting, Indianapolis, IN.” You will be prompted to enter your ACS ID or you can register for free. Click “Submit an Abstract.” The program area is “CHED: Division of Chemical Education” and the symposium is “Integrating interactive technology with lecture to enhance learning."
I'm happy to answer any questions either via the forum or PM.
