Please help spread the word about the 2009 NSF Summer Research Program in Solid State Chemistry and Materials for Undergraduates and Faculty. Prof. Doug Keszler (Oregon State University), Prof. Cathy Page and Prof. David Johnson (University of Oregon) will be running the program again this summer. The program begins with a one-week hands-on tutorial session introducing solid state chemistry in Oregon (June 15-19, 2009), followed by eight weeks of research in a host laboratory chosen from a variety of locations across the country (June 20-August 13, 2009) and finishing with a two-day symposium back in Oregon (August 14-15, 2009). The program will cover transportation costs and pay the participants a $4200 stipend. An additional housing supplement up to $1200 will be provided according to individual needs. We encourage undergraduates that are interested in learning more about solid state and materials chemistry to apply!
In an effort to foster more solid state and materials research at undergraduate institutions and establish new collaborations, the program scope also includes support for a faculty member from an undergraduate institution (non-PhD granting) together with a student from their home institution to spend a summer working at a nearby research laboratory. One of the selection criteria for faculty participants is the feasibility of continuing the research program at the undergraduate institution (of the faculty candidate) during the academic year while maintaining close ties with the host research institution.
