Typical Student Population
This course is open to juniors and seniors in the fall semester. The juniors are taking 2nd semester organic concurrently and have NOT taken inorganic. The seniors are usually a mix of HMC students who have taken inorganic the previous semester and other students from Claremont who usually have taken inorganic.
Description

Study of the metal-carbon bond: synthesis, structure, bonding, reactivity, and catalysis.

The LOs used in this course are in a VIPEr Collection called "Chem 165 2018."

Learning Goals

By the end of the course students will:

            • describe the structure and bonding of organometallic compounds

            • know the major reactions of organometallic chemistry

            • read, analyze, interpret, and present results from the organometallic primary literature

            • summarize both classic and recent organometallic research in concise form

How the course is taught
The first few weeks are lecture/discussion and the bulk of the course is student-led discussions of the primary literature.

Your grade in the class will be based on:
1. Active participation in class discussions/problem-solving exercises: 20 pts
2. Reading guide submissions: 20 pts
3. Homework problems: 20 pts
