If anyone has developed a good learning object (LO) about quasicrystals and the 2011 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, it would be a great resource to have on VIPEr. Of course, there is lots of good info on the Nobel site: http://www.nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/chemistry/laureates/2011/.

I found a good website about Penrose tiling that explained the role of the golden ratio: http://www.goldennumber.net/penrose.htm. (Actually, Wikipedia is good on this, too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penrose_tilings.) If you click through the golden number site to the site on quasicrystals (http://www.goldennumber.net/quasicrystal.htm), it even has a downloadable file that lets you build a quasicrystal unit cell!
